Does employment law apply to contractors in BC?

Independent contractors are not covered by the Employment Standards Act, but they do have rights under contract law. Sometimes, workers are misclassified as contractors when they are really employees. If you’re unsure, you can ask the Employment Standards Branch for guidance or get legal advice.
